On 20 July 1974 Turkey brutally invaded Cyprus, murdered 6,000 Greek Cypriot civilians (1% of total population), ethnically cleansed 200,000 Greek Cypriots (30% of total population), occupied 37% of the island and created a puppet apartheid regime that forbids anyone of Greek name or origin to enter.

Since 1974 Turkey has attempted to eradicate the cultural identity of occupied Cyprus through the plundering and desecration of ancient monuments and churches; and has altered the demography of Cyprus by transplanting 100,000 Anatolian colonists.

Turkey seeks to make permanent its illegal occupation of Cypriot territory and to this day stands in defiance of over 120 United Nations and Security Council resolutions that call for the withdrawal of Turkish troops and respect for the territorial integrity of Cyprus.

Britain, as a guarantor power is legally obliged to protect the Republic of Cyprus.

The current British Government, despite numerous pre-election promises seems to ignore its obligations in Cyprus and turns a blind eye to Turkey’s gross human rights abuses and violations of international law in Cyprus.

We ask that you:

• Show your solidarity with the people of Cyprus in their just struggle against Turkish occupation

• Contact your Member of Parliament and demand that Britain acts to comply with its obligations in Cyprus.
