Greek fires emergency relief fund
Lobby for Cyprus expresses its deepest sympathy to the Greek people over their terrible suffering following the recent devastating forest fires in Greece. Lobby is proud that the Cypriot people have stood side by side with their Greek brothers both in sending the largest contingent of overseas fire fighters to Greece to tackle the blazes and by now providing immediate financial and other support. Many of our members also lost their homes, livelihood and loved ones in 1974, and so we fully understand the terrible pain and suffering that these events have caused to the people of the devastated regions of the Peloponnese and the island of Evia. Lobby urges that members of the Cypriot community in the UK do whatever they can to assist the Greek people who have had their lives torn apart by recent events. If you can assist financially please donate some money to the bank accounts set up by the Cyprus High Commission and the Greek Embassy which are set out below. These people need our help urgently and we must do whatever we can to help them. The Greek Embassy is advising that the priority is the raising of urgent funds. However, if you would rather donate clothes, bedlinen, toys, icons for the burnt out churches and any household goods please monitor Lobby's web site which will let you know where you can deposit these items.
