Turkey's policies

Sir, Alper Riza's letter (August 23) needs amending. The illegal regime in the northern part of Cyprus does not allow Greek Cypriots to return to their homes. That is the crux of the Cypriot problem. Circumstances have not changed from when they were ethnically cleansed back in 1974, soon after Turkey invaded Cyprus. Greek Cypriots still hold the title deeds to over 85 per cent of the area that is illegally occupied by Turkey. Unlike the Kosovo Albanian refugees, Greek Cypriots have not been so fortunate with a return to their homes.
