Mediation fabricated a political monstrosity
"...THE FIFTH VERSION OF THE ANNAN PLAN was already seriously one-sided and unbalanced, even before Bürgenstock. After the inspired mediation it was turned into a political monstrosity."

Reflection is rather trendy lately. Everybody advises us to get some. What if temporary residents of our island cannot conceive what exactly that profound urge means? Reflection sounds like the magic formula that would solve all our troubles, after 40 years of fruitless quest.

Lets go deeper into that, shall we? The recipe of reflection quotes that, because the Greek Cypriots did not comprehend the Annan 1-5 series of plans they should take a deep breath, have a few months break to contemplate, search in their soul, consider their mistake, recall lost treasures, write a thousand times “I will not do it again” and finally find a convenient date to vote again and devastated welcome the plan that their overwhelming majority has sweepingly rejected.

Well – no. The urge is canny and should be interpreted the other way around. To exclude any chance of being misunderstood, I am particularly and exclusively referring to specific lines about reflection that Mr. Annan and De Soto, among others, mention. What they try to tell us, on the same thing they would base our national isolation, is:

• FIRST, the Plan is de facto and unchangeable, except from idle guarantees regarding the implementation (of the rejected solution) and some other meaningless rephrasing.

• SECOND, the Turkish Cypriots said a loud YES, so the plan is, consolidated – and if you want solution, this is it, come and sign it please.

• THIRD, we (writers) are important and wise lords and we have tried to staple together nine thousand pages, not to mention our prestige, therefore you cannot tell us that we were wrong and finally say a rather rude “no”.

• FOUR, you have been given the unique and golden opportunity to reunite the island and you have thrown away the felicity of the generations to come and disrupted security in the region.

• FIVE, reflect some more and abandon yourself to deep reflection, allowing it to lead you to salvation.

THE FIFTH VERSION OF THE ANNAN PLAN was already seriously one-sided and unbalanced, even before Bürgenstock. After the inspired mediation it was turned into a political monstrosity.

Therefore, 3 to 4 citizens rejected it. It was rejected even by dear and nice Averof, according whom any attempt to submit it again in referendum as it is would be insult to the people. Since the Plan does not provide a solid state shape, but a derelict fabrication, things speak for themselves, since the Plan needs numerous and serious alterations and rephrasing, then which deep reflection could retrieve the situation?

In other words, instigators of the Plan are advised to see their own mistakes, improvisations, handlings and wishes and if they do so, they should have their own deep reflection and then they could get back to us. We will be here. Besides, now that we are Europeans, we are not silly to spoil our image with old-fashioned recipes about salvation."
