Official protest over Talat’s UK visit
"...Papadopoulos said it was not the first time Britain had shown its intentions to upgrade the illegal authorities in the occupied north, without taking into consideration the recognised government of the of Cyprus."

CYPRUS has made an official representation for the British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw’s invitation to Turkish Cypriot ‘prime minister’ Mehmet Ali Talat to see him in London next week, President Tassos Papadopoulos said yesterday.

The representation was made to Britain’s high commissioner in Nicosia.

Papadopoulos said it was a required action because that was what the protocol said and that was what should have been done.

“Britain should understand that such actions do not help the cultivation of better relations between the Greek Cypriots and Britain, which has a lot of interests in Cyprus,” the President added.

According to reports, the representation was made both in Nicosia and London on Friday.

British High Commissioner Lynn Parker was summoned to the foreign ministry where Permanent Secretary Sotos Zacheos protested for the British intentions.

Cyprus’ high commissioner in London visited the foreign office where she conveyed the government’s complaint.

On Friday, Papadopoulos said it was not the first time Britain had shown its intentions to upgrade the illegal authorities in the occupied north, without taking into consideration the recognised government of the of Cyprus."
