Request to inspect Tymbou airport rejected
"Eurocontrol, the European Organization for the safety of air navigation, rejected the request of Turks to inspect the illegal Tymbou (Ercan) airport"

Eurocontrol, the European Organization for the safety of air navigation, rejected the request of Turks to inspect the illegal Tymbou (Ercan) airport.

The Turkish request is rejected, since the airport in the northern Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus is illegal and therefore no serious international organization could inspect its facilities, given that such action would entail indirect recognition. After the cold shower by Euro control, the Turks addressed themselves to the US, who accepted, without reaching any political decision, as they claimed, to organize direct flights from US airports to the occupied north. Previous Thursday and Friday, on October 21st and 23rd, US officials inspected security facilities such as baggage handling, security cameras and others, finding numerous problems. However, the International Civil Aviation Organization also confirms the opinion that the Tymbou (Ercan) airport does not meet the standards for safety oversight."
