32,000 passports for Turkish Cypriots
"... state services have issued 32,200 passports, 63,600 birth certificates, and 57,300 identity cards to Turkish Cypriots..."

AROUND 32,000 passports have been issued to Turkish Cypriots since April 2003, the Interior Minister said yesterday.

Since restrictions on movement were lifted in April 2003, the state services have issued 32,200 passports, 63,600 birth certificates, and 57,300 identity cards to Turkish Cypriots, Andreas Christou said.

He noted that all his ministry’s services had responded swiftly to the needs arising from the opening of the checkpoints.

The services were reorganised and also staffed with fresh personnel and Turkish Cypriot interpreters and translators.

Information centres in all district administrations and close to the Ledra Palace checkpoint have been staffed with Turkish-speaking officers in order to become more efficient in providing their services.

All application forms regarding passports, identity cards, etc, have been made available in Turkish and on the Internet through the government’s official webpage: www.cyprus.gov.cy and the Press and Information Office webpage: www.pio.gov.cy."
