One Cyprus

I would like to clarify that there is no ‘Southern Cyprus’ on the island of Aphrodite. There is the Republic of Cyprus encompassing the whole island, a member of the UN, EU and Commonwealth. A glance on the list of member states of the above, does not show a ‘Southern Cyprus’, so it’s puzzling that Sunday Times makes the same mistake repeatedly. Note that EU law is not extended to the island’s northern 37 percent as this is under military occupation by Turkey. Purchasing property in the occupied area is illegal under European and Republic of Cyprus laws, particularly if the titles belong to Cypriots forcibly evicted by the Turkish army during and after the invasion in 1974. Any potential purchasers in the occupied areas risk legal action by the rightful owners (Source HM Foreign & Commonwealth Office website). I am one of the evicted rightful owners and have no intention of allowing any illegal sale by unscrupulous developers, of my home and any holiday apartments built on my property.
