RE: The wall of lies

Sir

The Ledra Street wall has indeed come down. However the wall of lies will never come down if the Western media, including the BBC, do not say the truth. References such as “Greek and Turkish Cypriots have been divided since 1974, when Turkey deployed troops after a coup by Greek Cypriots who wanted union with Greece”, are misleading, inaccurate and highly offensive. The BBC, in its reports on the Cyprus issue, seems to be attempting to continuously ‘excuse’ Turkey for its illegal invasion and occupation of the sovereign Republic of Cyprus and for the murder of innocent people, the ethnic cleansing of the entire population of the occupied north, the devastation of the island’s cultural heritage and many other atrocities that will be impossible to list in such a short letter. The coup was NOT organized by Greek Cypriots, it was organised and executed by the Greek junta at the instruction of Henry Kissinger and the CIA and the support of the British, in a heinous and well planned attempt to overthrow the elected government of the Republic and open the way for Turkey to divide the island. The majority of Greek Cypriots fought against the coupists, many Cypriots suffered because of the coup and it is highly disturbing and offensive to state that it was organized by Greek Cypriots to unite Cyprus with Greece. What is fact, is that Turkey invaded the Republic of Cyprus, contrary to international law, irrespective of excuses claimed by it and its Western collaborators, and it is continuing to occupy 37 percent of the island despite more than 120 UN resolutions calling for the withdrawal of the Turkish troops and the respect of its sovereignty and the territorial integrity. Note that certain countries have been bombed by the West, with less than one UN resolution in their favour!

Opening the Ledra street Palace crossing, is indeed encouraging, but real progress can only be made when the superpowers of the international community stop to appease Turkey because of its geo-strategic importance and to put pressure on it (Turkey) to abide by UN resolutions and international law and to set Republic of Cyprus and it’s people free to build a peaceful future for generations to come.

And I urge the BBC to stop cSir

And I urge the BBC to stop causing unnecessary distress to those of us that have suffered, lost loved ones and our homes due to Turkey’s inexcusable invasion and atrocities committed against Cyprus and its people.ausing unnecessary distress to those of us that have suffered, lost loved ones and our homes due to Turkey’s inexcusable invasion and atrocities committed against Cyprus and its people.
